Bayern Are Serious About Olmo, and Barcelona Should Be Worried

A £69m bid from Bayern Munich for Dani Olmo is not a number you brush off. The 28-year-old has been one of the most important players in European football over the past 18 months, and Bayern clearly see him as the kind of quality that can push them back to the very top of the Champions League picture.

For Barcelona, this is a genuinely tricky situation. Olmo only arrived at the club recently and fans will not want to see him go. But with Barcelona's financial problems well documented, turning down £69m is easier said than done. If Bayern push hard in January, there's every chance this one gets done.

From a betting angle, Olmo to leave Barcelona before the end of the season looks like decent value. Bayern are organised, they have the money, and they do not give up easily once they've identified a target.

Trent Is Staying, So Arsenal and Liverpool Can Move On

Trent Alexander-Arnold is not going anywhere from Real Madrid. That's the message coming out of the club, and we believe it. He made a big call to leave Liverpool last summer and Madrid was clearly always the destination he had in his head. He's not about to u-turn six months in.

Arsenal and Liverpool can show interest all they like, but this story is dead. Trent is a Real Madrid player and he'll want to prove he belongs there. Our advice to both clubs is to look elsewhere at right-back.

The Van de Ven Price Tag Will Put Most Clubs Off

Micky van de Ven is a brilliant player. Quick, aggressive, reads the game well. Liverpool and Manchester United both wanting him makes complete sense. The problem is Tottenham are not selling cheap.

Spurs will demand a very large fee for the 25-year-old Dutchman, and that's going to make any deal seriously complicated. United in particular can't afford to be spending massive transfer fees on defenders when there are bigger problems elsewhere in the squad. Liverpool might have more appetite, but even they'll need to weigh up whether van de Ven is the right fit when they already have a solid defensive setup.

If you're betting on van de Ven to leave Spurs in January, we'd say it's unlikely. Summer feels more realistic, and even then only if Spurs get their asking price.

Balde to United and the Barcelona Fire Sale That Could Happen

Alternately, if Manchester United want a left-back, Alejandro Balde could be available. The 22-year-old Spain international is attracting interest, and Barcelona's financial situation means they might need to sell in January.

Balde is young, talented, and relatively affordable compared to some of the other names in this window. For a United side that has struggled with defensive consistency, adding a left-back of genuine Premier League quality would be a smart move.

This one feels more likely to happen than most of the other rumours floating around right now. Balde to a Premier League club before the window closes in February is a genuine possibility.

Haaland to Barcelona Is a Fantasy, But Not Forever

Barcelona watching Erling Haaland is nothing new. They've always wanted him. The difference now is that Manchester City's situation following their Premier League rule breaches could change things in the summer.

We won't pretend this is a done deal. Haaland is on enormous wages and Barcelona still have financial limitations. But the story is no longer completely absurd, and it'll run and run between now and the end of the season.

For now, file it under 'keep an eye on' rather than 'put money on'.

The Premier League is going to be busy in January. Van de Ven is the headline name but the fee will be the sticking point. Balde to United feels more realistic. Olmo to Bayern is the move most likely to actually happen.

As for the rest, Tomori and Loftus-Cheek leaving Milan on frees is the quiet story that could open up some interesting opportunities for mid-table Premier League clubs looking for experienced additions without a transfer fee. Both of them still have plenty to offer at the right club.
