At standard payouts, single-zero roulette has a 2.70% house edge; double-zero roulette usually has 5.26%. That means expected losses of RM27.03 and RM52.63 per RM1,000 staked. Check the wheel, payouts and zero rules together: special rules change those figures. The calculations assume a fair wheel; we have not played at the tables discussed.

How roulette works
In roulette, a ball settles in a numbered pocket. You choose a number or group of numbers before betting closes, and the payout depends on which bet wins. Once bets close, there is no playing decision to make.
The wheel carries numbers 1 to 36, coloured red and black, plus at least one green zero. The betting layout in front of you splits into two families:
- Inside bets — on individual numbers or small groups of them. Big payouts, low hit rates. Straight up (one number), split (two), street (three), corner (four), six line (six).
- Outside bets cover larger groups. Red/black, odd/even and low/high each cover 18 numbers; dozens and columns cover 12. They win more frequently than a single-number bet, but pay less.
RNG roulette generates results in software. Live roulette streams a physical wheel, while automated roulette uses a physical wheel without a human dealer. A format label alone does not establish the odds: check the number of pockets, payouts and settlement rules.

With standard payouts, a straight-up win pays 35:1 on either wheel. Adding the 00 pocket lowers the chance of winning without increasing the payout. The comparison excludes special zero rules and multiplier games; the American five-number bet is a separate exception.
Worked example. You bet RM10 on red, one hundred times. That is RM1,000 through the table either way.
- Single zero: RM1,000 × (1 ÷ 37) = RM27.03 expected loss.
- Double zero: RM1,000 × (2 ÷ 38) = RM52.63 expected loss.
- The difference is about RM25.60 in expected loss. An individual session can finish above or below these averages.
Look for 0 and 00 on the wheel rather than relying on a lobby image or the game’s name. Then check the payout table.

The following standard payouts apply to both wheel types. Probabilities and returns below use a fair single-zero wheel, with no la partage, en prison or multipliers. The return column includes the original stake.

Every bet in this table has the same 2.70% expected cost per ringgit. That does not make their risks identical: a straight-up bet wins much less often than red/black and has a larger payout. Our RTP, house edge and volatility glossary explains that distinction.

On a standard double-zero layout, the five-number bet costs more than the other listed bets.
The five-number bet covers 0, 00, 1, 2 and 3. At 6:1 it wins on five of 38 pockets, giving a 7.89% house edge. That is RM78.95 expected loss per RM1,000 staked, versus RM52.63 on the other standard American bets. Its fair net payout would be 6.6:1.
French zero rules: la partage and en prison
French roulette uses the single-zero wheel plus a rule that pays you back when the zero lands. Under la partage, if you have an even-money bet down (red/black, odd/even, 1–18/19–36) and the ball drops in zero, you lose only half your stake.
At standard single-zero payouts, la partage cuts the edge on those even-money bets to 1.35%: RM13.51 expected loss per RM1,000. It does not reduce the cost of a straight-up bet.
Some tables offer en prison instead: the bet is locked for the next spin, and returned without winnings if it then wins. What a second zero does sets the price (Wizard of Odds' imprisonment table): if the bet simply stays in prison until a non-zero spin settles it, en prison costs the same 1.35% as la partage; if it drops to double imprisonment, about 1.37%; if the second zero loses it, 1.39%. Both rules apply only to even-money bets; straight-up numbers still cost 2.70%.
Check which zero rule the table actually offers. A French name or layout does not replace the written settlement rule.
Multiplier roulette: read the straight-up payout
Multiplier versions change how some winning bets pay. The rules below concern the named products, not every game carrying a similar title.
Evolution’s Lightning Roulette page describes a single-zero wheel, one to five Lucky Numbers with 50x–500x multipliers, and a 29:1 payout for non-multiplied straight-up wins. Other bets retain standard payouts, and the page states no RTP (read 13 October 2026). Pragmatic Play’s separate Mega Roulette 3000 page advertises up to eight multiplied numbers at 50x–3,000x.
On the stated Lightning rules, a RM10 straight-up win without a multiplier returns RM300 including the stake, versus RM360 at 35:1. The multiplied wins must be included when calculating the bet’s overall return; the reduced base payout alone is not its RTP.
Three practical consequences:
- Separate bet types. Lightning’s standard outside bets retain the usual single-zero edge. Do not assume the same rules for another multiplier product.
- Separate return from volatility. Larger occasional payouts do not by themselves establish a better or worse expected return. You need the complete payout model, including multiplier probabilities.
- Check what the advertised RTP covers. Pragmatic Play publishes 97.50% for Mega Roulette 3000. Its product-page headline alone does not identify a return for every bet, so we do not label it a blended average or assign it to each bet type. Use the exact game’s help panel for the applicable rules.

Why Martingale fails, in ringgit
The Martingale says: bet RM10 on red, double after every loss, and the first win recovers everything plus RM10. The arithmetic is correct. The problem is the size of the bet you must survive to collect that RM10.

After seven consecutive full losses, the RM10 doubling sequence has lost RM1,270 and calls for RM1,280 next. A bankroll or table limit can prevent that next bet. The promise of recovering RM10 depends on being able to keep funding the sequence.
Assuming independent fair single-zero spins, seven consecutive non-red results have probability (19/37)7, about 0.94%. The chance of at least one such run is about 36% over 100 spins and 69% over 250. These are model probabilities, not a prediction that any particular session will lose.
The standard red/black edge remains 1/37 per unit staked. A progression changes the stakes and total exposure; it does not remove that expected cost.
Why “due” numbers are not due
Under the same independent-spin model, a specified number has a (36/37)37 ≈ 36.3% chance of not appearing in 37 spins. Over 100 spins, the chance is about 6.5%. Neither absence makes the next spin more likely to land on it.
Hot/cold lists describe past results. They do not establish a profitable forecast for an independent fair wheel. Treat paid prediction claims as unverified unless there is reliable evidence beyond selected winning screenshots. Scam Watch #1 explains related warning signs.
Roulette and casino bonuses
Check the exact promotion’s game-contribution table: a roulette bet may count fully, partly or not at all. Among ranked casinos, Dafabet's casino welcome counts roulette at 20% and GOD55's welcome at 25%; BK8's welcome excludes non-live table games, naming American roulette, unless specifically stated (terms read 12 October 2026).

A note on legality and safety
Playing can be an offence for you. Section 6(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and section 6(1) of the Betting Act 1953 penalise players: a fine up to RM5,000, up to six months' jail, or both.
